Whether you're venturing out into the snow for the first time or you're looking for a new activity to add to your quiver of winter adventures, this event is for you. Winter Discovery Day is designed to connect you to a plethora of winter recreation opportunities and resources in the Valley. Activities take place in the Valley's Hatcher Pass area, or as we like to call it, Gold Rush Country!

At Government Peak Recreation Area you can ski the cross country trails, go fat biking, or try on a pair of specialized hok skis. Equipment is provided by Mat-Su Ski Club and Alaska Backcountry Bike and Ski. The Valley Mountain Bikers and Hikers organization is also providing complimentary hot cocoa.

Further into Hatcher Pass at the Skeetawk Ski Area, Hatcher Pass Avalanche Center is hosting a special avalanche awareness program in addition to the Skeetawk's normal ski operations. Lift passes, gear, and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Continue past Skeetawk to the Gold Mint Trailhead for snowshoeing opportunities, provided by Onward and Upward, as well as traction gear demoing by AKtive Soles. There will also be an avalanche awareness program and complimentary hot cocoa at this location.

Head up the hill to Indepenence Mine for more snowshoeing demos and sledding opportunities, provided by Revel Treks and Tours as well as Adventures by True North AK. Delicious hot cocoa is available here too, thanks to Salmon Berry Travel and Tours, and the  Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation will also be there with lots of great trail information for you.

Revel Treks and Tours has partnered with Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation to organize this free event. A day use parking fee may apply in a few locations. Plan to come out this weekend from 10am to 2pm. Enjoy all the wonderful snow and try out some fun new winter recreation equipment.
