Glacier Ice Caves
During the summer months, melt pools that form on a glacier's surface will often drain into the glacier itself, joining up with other drainage flows and eventually exiting the ice closer to the terminus of the glacier. By winter, these drainages freeze into awesome blue caverns that lead into the glacier. In the Mat-Su Valley, the ice caves of Knik Glacier and Matanuska Glacier are breathtaking and definitely worth a peek. You can join guided tours led by experienced professionals who are familiar with glacier conditions and know the best locations for a safe and unforgettable experience.
